APC backs Gov. Amaechi on soldiers’ right to welfare -
All Progressives Congress, APC, has thrown its weight behind the comment credited to Governor of Rivers State and the Director General of the Campaign Organisation of General Muhammadu Buhari that the military has a right to good welfare packages while fighting for Nigeria.
Rotimi Amaechi
The National Publicity Secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who spoke to Journalists yesterday via a telephone said while the party does not support disobedience to military laws, it was yet to see what was wrong in Amaechi’s statement.
He said: “Amaechi did not say Soldiers should Protest. What he said was that they should improve the welfare of the soldiers and soldiers have a right to welfare and proper treatment while on national assignment.
“We are fully in support of the view that soldiers welfare must be improved but that does not mean that they will not respect the regulations governing the military institution.
“You see when you enlist in the military, you are governed by the Act establishing the military and military laws, so that is a completely different thing.
“But for us as Nigerians, we believe that the Federal Government must keep its own side of the bargain so that they don’t send soldiers to the war front without ammunition and equipment. You do not have to neglect to put in place death insurance package to at least a minimum rate of about N300,000.

PATIENCE REPLYS GEN. BUHARI ON SCRAPPING THE OFFICE OF THE FIRST LADY
General Buhari stated yesterday in an interview with Weekly Trust that if elected as president in next year’s presidential election, he would abolish the office of the First Lady. The office, though not constitutionally recognized, has been maintained by past and present administrations and is even seen as being key in policy decisions. He said that ministries, which are constitutional, should be allowed to play their roles instead.
"There is the Ministry of Women Affairs, and so on. I was raised by my mother, as I lost my father when I was under 6 years, so I know what a woman can do if given the chance”.
In a subtle way of replying Buhari's comments, First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan, emphasized the importance of the office of the First Lady in the Nigerian politics, saying that the office has been an avenue for mobilizing women for mass participation in politics.
She said this in Abia state during a reception organized for her by the Ohuhu community, her maternal home in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia state, yesterday.
She said the bid by politicians from the opposition camp to scrap the office of the First Lady would amount to sending the Nigerian women back to the kitchen if such came to fruition, adding,
“It is not our portion to go back to the kitchen. We have women that are capable. We can contribute our quota to the development of Nigeria".
She also told the women not to vote for any politician who doesn't respect women.
The First Lady had veered off from the address she was reading at the occasion when she directed the attention of guests to Buhari’s idea which she said was not practicable in the ongoing political dispensation because of the critical role women have been playing in politics.

Justin Bieber bought himself a private jet for xmas
It seems that the sky’s the limit for Justin Bieber’s bratty, luxury lifestyle.
The 20-year-old appeared to gift himself a plush private jet this Christmas, blasting out boastful pictures of the new plane to his 20 million-plus Instagram followers on Friday.
“New jet for Christmas, and she’s beautiful,” the "Baby" singer captioned one photo, showing him inside the cabin of the aircraft.
Another image shows off the snazzy leather and wood-panel interior. “Merry Christmas she’s a beauty,” he wrote.
Bieber appeared to spend Christmas Eve between his dad’s house in Canada, with half-brother Jaxon, and a boozy hometown party.
“Small town boy at heart no harm in a little #beerpong,” he wrote on one photo of a small group of youngsters standing around tables filled with red cups.
Kim Kardashian I'm Upset ... Because I Can't Get Pregnant
Kim Kardashian is upset for a very good reason ... as hard as she's been trying, she can't get pregnant.
Kim has been very open with friends and family ... she and Kanye have been trying to have another baby for the last 9 months but nothing has worked. Kim has been to fertility doctors, but they've made it clear ... having another baby is a long shot.
Turns out North West was a miracle baby ... she had 3 specialists tell her she couldn't get pregnant before North was conceived.
Kim and Kanye assumed the second baby would be easier since it worked once, but the doctors are telling her that's not the case.
We're told Kim is trying to reduce her stress and cut down on traveling ... per doctor's advice.
The pic was taken Tuesday in Bev Hills after visiting her doctor. We're told Kanye has been to almost every doctor's visit ... Kim goes once a month.
